The subject of a sonnet must be clear
And written in exactly fourteen lines.
It should be something that you think is dear
Though it need not be so in others' minds.
The Shakespearean sonnets always rhyme;
It's really quite rigid the way they do.
They also keep very specific time
Which makes the writing of them harder, too.
Of course, if you write sonnets for a while
You'll be able to write them easily.
They do not require the use of guile;
Why, writing them is sheer simplicity!
The theme of fourteen lines in the last two
Is always the hardest thing left to do.
